About the Catchment Area
Panalatinga Creek
Panalatinga creek is a small watercourse with a long name
- and a name that is often mispronounced at that!
The word Panalatinga is derived from Pandlotinga, the name by which
the local aboriginal people had called the creek. Inga is their
word for a path of water.
Panalatinga creek originates at the top of the range in the Chandlers
Hill / Onkaparinga Hills area. The creek flows through Reynella
before connecting with the Field River in Trott Park. The creek
has been used for a variety of activities over the years. One of
the earliest recorded uses was as a source of water for Cabernet
Sauvignon grape vines planted by the region’s original founder,
John Reynell in 1839.
